Lightbulb Preserving customized columns in when creating new data file

Suggestion :
I've spent a lot of time customizing and tweaking the columns included in each view of my current data file. I now want to create a new data file and use the same column setup as I created for my current file but, when I create a new file I'm presented with the default column layout.

Suggestion is to provide a way of preserving the user customized column layout when creating new data files.

Roger, thanks for a great product that just keeps getting better.

That is a good suggestion, but I don't know how easy it will be to implement. I'll keep it in mind for the 2.x series.

I'm assuming that when you say "create a new file" you're going to File-->New Data File

Have you tried the following:
1.File-->Save the database with the columns you want, then close it.
2. Browse your way to your datafile and select it without opening,
3. Use CTRL+C to copy
4. Use CTRL+V (yes, V) to paste wherever you want the new data file to reside giving it new name to differentiate it from the old one.

If so, did it keep the column layout you created?

Or have you tried doing a "Save" of your current file, then do a File-->"Save As" with the name "AP MyColumnLayout.ach"?
If you then remove all entries from all pages, leaving just the columns as you tweaked them, you can Save the new file and use it as a template whenever you need a new empty data file

As Laura suggests, you can make a copy of your existing data file and just delete everything to start from scratch.

Then use that as the template for new files?
